10th Rotary Bulletin Column

Mayor Nani, at last! Last week, the Ambassador of UK, Peter Beckingham, visited Dagupan City. Joining me in welcoming Her Majesty’s Ambassador was PP/Secretary Edwin Aguirre, representing the Rotary Club of Dagupan. The ambassador was impressed with the developments of the city and was very grateful in being given the opportunity to speak before a city council, which he said, was his first time to address a city council since he arrived in the Philippines. The night of his visit, the Rotary Club of Dagupan coordinated with the Rotary Club of Binmaley to make His Excellency a part of the program as special guest. The night was filled with warm and happy moments, and the induction’s aura was that of a family gathering. After the program, the RCD, composed of Pres Alvin, PE Jess, Dir. Jorge O, Auditor Lino, and PP/Sec Edwin proceeded to attend the Jaycees Area Conference in Tarlac City. The Jaycee night was a new experience for some Rotarians since the average age in that event was 27. There, our very own Secretary Edwin Aguirre, won a 14-inch colored TV set. What a night! Congrats for winning, Edwin! Tonight, we will have City Mayor Nani Braganza of Alaminos, Pangasinan as guest. Mayor Nani has just made history with his successful taking over of the operations of the Hundred Islands National Park from the Philippine Tourism Authority. Pangasinan is blessed with rich natural resources. With proper development and management of the Hundred Islands, we could expect business to flourish through tourism. The initial plan of the City Government of Alaminos is to invite private investors to develop the different islands under a specific comprehensive plan laid out by the city government. We are eager to hear more of this plan from Mayor Braganza.
