School board convenes its monthly meeting

Acting Mayor Alvin Fernandez today convened the city’s school board at the city museum. Present in the meeting were City Administrator Raffy Baraan, City Schools Superintendent Aurora Domingo, Councilor Danilo ‘Pakoy’ Torio, SP committee on education chair, City Assessor Jose Sanchez, as representative of the local appraisal committee, City Treasurer Romelita Alcantara, Dr. William Macob, as representative of the teaching sector, Victor Patawaran, as representative of the non teaching sector, and Magda Valdez, as representative of the parents sector. Ana Mendoza documented the meeting. Discussed during the meeting were: awarding of incentives to winning Palaro players that have not been given yet; procurement of the Pantal school lot (449 sq.m.); procurement of the Tebeng school lot (2,000 sq.m.); sale of the Dagupan coffeetable book; and the budget items for 2006. The Acting Mayor reiterated his offer to City Schools Superintendent Aurora Domingo to provide for free 10hrs access per student, having computer lab as a subject, to hands on computer access via Internet Cafes that are located near the High Schools. It could be noted that computers in public schools are not enough to cope with the needs of the students. The city is also offering the pilot high schools having computer laboratories to have access to 24hr internet connections via DSL or WiFi so that these laboratories could also serve as cyberspace libraries where surfing the net shall be encourage to expose students to the limitless potentials the world wide web has to offer. The target for the implementation of the program shall be for the third quarter of this school year.
