Vice Mayor Fernandez's speech during the school buildings' turnover

Good evening to our donors, to the city officials headed by Mayor Benjamin S. Lim, the Pangasinan Chamber of Commerce, the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Inc., the Department of Education officials headed by Madame Aurora Domingo, Barangay Captains Marvin Fabia and Gary Rayos, Councilors Joey Tamayo and Alex de Venecia, our new chief of police, Supt. Ed Basbas: A wonderful, wonderful evening! I have just come from a necrological service. Imagine ourselves about to die. No one will ever say na, "Sayang, sana nagtrabaho pa ako ng husto para mas dumami pera ko. Sayang, sana mas binigyan ko pa ng panahon ang negosyo ko para mas lumago." No one will ever say that in their death bed. But instead, they may say, "Sayang, sana mas binigyan ko pa ng panahon ang aking mga mahal sa buhay para naipakita ko sa kanila ang aking pagmamahal." In the end, it is not what material things we have that matters. What matters is that we have loved and given all that we have, all that we are to our love ones, to the people who make us happy, to our community. You are very wealthy. You are very powerful. The Lord GOD has a reason for making you what you are right now. The blessings you are experiencing from your business have a purpose. You were chosen by the Lord to spread HIS Blessings. For the Lord chooses to bless the generous. The children studying in the schools where you have donated will forever be grateful for your contributions. Even when your time comes and you would have passed this world, you shall be remembered for the edifice you have constructed for them. The lack of classrooms problem in education in our country is so huge that even the Secretary of Education is contemplating on shortening school hours and making a scheme of two shifts to double the capacity of the schools. Yet, this solution of double shifting still is not enough that the Department of Education is also contemplating on enrolling public school students to private schools at a fixed rate of P4,000 per student. The problem seems hopeless, but with the generosity of people like you, we find HOPE. We find INSPIRATION. Your CONCERN to the welfare of our public school students is ENOUGH to MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Enough to spark a feeling of concern to do more. Enough to inspire other people blessed by the Lord to follow your example of generosity to others. MARAMING, MARAMING SALAMAT PO. MAY GOD BLESS US ALL.
