Vice Mayor Alvin Fernandez joins officials from government and non-government organizations in the launching of ABS-CBN's Bantay Bata in Dagupan City at the Region 1 Medical Center. The launching was highlighted by a multisectoral convention on child abuse, where Mayor Benjamin Lim and City Social Welfare and Development chief Elsa Santillan were also in attendance.
Vice Mayor Fernandez is well loved by the people of Dagupan that he was unopposed when he ran for reelection in May 2004. He is now the president of Rotary and VMLP Pangasinan Chapter and National Exec.Vice Pres. of VMLP. He was recently invited by the President to the Consultative Commission and now seats as one of its commissioners. The Vice Mayor skillfully steered the City Council into passing vital measures on public order and safety, social welfare, health, sanitation and environment, which benefits the people of the city. In April 2003, he led a city government delegation to Milpitas City in California and signed the Memorandum of Understanding for the Sister City Relations. He was later invited by the Council of Local Authorities for International Relations as a Resource Person for the Local Government Exchange Seminar in Tokyo, Japan. He was one of the country's delegates to Sarawak, Malaysia for the Healthy Cities Convention. Alvin is an industrial management minor in chemical engineering graduate from the De La Salle University. He is happily married to Katherine Sto. Domingo, with whom he has three lovely children, Katrina, Anton and Lucky.

Can I also add that CHILD ABUSE is not only limited to sexual or in physical forms..it is also emotional such as name calling, degrading and empowering a child by calling him names or making him feel uncomfortable, sad, and worthless. There is also one that is called an educational neglect. If a parent or a guardian failed to send the child to school unprepared, no school materials, no lunch, with dirty clothes and so on and so forth. It is our responsibility as adults to care for our own children. And it is your responsibility as the person who has the authority, handed over by the people, to make sure, the adults are held accountable for their actions. Do everything you can in your power to make sure, parents who have limited means, can get the help they need from the government agencies who provides the help for these families. Again Vice Mayor, you can do so much in improving a child's life by extending your arms to those who are in badly need. You got the power, the means and the connections to do just that. Your people trusted you, and hey, once you decide to run as the mayor, I can be your PR manager..seriouly!
