Brotherhood

Last Friday, Rotary Club of Dagupan members attending the Induction of the Rotary Club of Makati left Inn Asia Hotel for Manila at exactly 5:10 a.m. Auditor Jessie, PE Jess, Dir Jorge, Auditor Lino and Auditor Danny rode on the first van. PP Leon, PP Edwin, Dir Albert and yours truly were in the second van. Gerry Tulfo and returning Rtn. Leo Bravo met us later in Manila and joined us for the affair. We had a stopover at Jollibee NLEX for our breakfast -- much to the delight of our Rotarians as PP Leon insisted on treating everyone. Upon reaching Manila, we initially thought of getting a two-bedroom suite at the Century Park for the group but found out that the hotel was already fully booked due to a convention. We then went directly to the Heritage Hotel to inquire on the availability of rooms. Luckily, there were two adjacent rooms available. We then called Commissioner Al to inform him that the RCD delegates are in Manila. He then immediately said that he shall be joining us at the Heritage as soon as he finishes his meeting in Cavite. The delegates were treated to a 12-course lauriat, with additional orders and a finishing touch of two bottles of elegantly flavored red wine. Commissioner Al was worried about our accommodation that he gave us two more rooms, increasing our rooms to four just to ensure that we are comfortably billeted while in Manila. Thank you, Commissioner for your deep concern to the RCD. Now comes the main event: the induction proper of our Brother Club, the Rotary Club of Makati. We had our cocktails with finger food at the side while the management was finalizing the physical arrangement of the main ballroom. The band playing was more into Spanish and Latin music, which made the night atmosphere cozy and lively. It was an opportunity to meet Rotarians from different parts of the Philippines and different parts of Southeast Asia and of course, with other members of the Rotary Club of Makati. Just when everyone was allowed to get their assigned seats, two pieces of lechon were served at the cocktail bar. Our delegates said the lechon tasted good but I did not indulge into it since we could already feel the toll of attending inductions where lechon are mainstays. In our seats, we met Rotarian Juan Carlos Del Rosario together with his Ann, Marissa Osmena Valencia (sister of Serge Valencia of PCSO). We were also tabled with the owner of the distributor of Land Rover and Jaguar, Rtn. Willy Soong with Ann Maureen together with their son Mark, who is also a Rotarian. Also with us was the RC Makati legal counsel, Rtn. Reggie Nolido. I commend the RCM for their distribution of members to entertain guests in each table. It really builds an atmosphere of warmth and hospitality. The induction of President Sonny Tambunting was very Tambunting, literally Tambunting. From the opening to the finale, it was dominated by Tambunting children. They shared their talents to everyone’s delight, from start of the invocation, to the end of the Rotarian family presentation of the board. BRAVO to Sonny for showing us how a family's support can make a big difference to an affair! We had our first taste of having breakfast at 11:30 in the evening. That was a first that we heard the word breakfast at 11:30 p.m. It was also at that time that we were able to have a conversation with our adopted son of Dagupan, Rtn. Robert Kuan. It was a full night, starting our cocktails at 6:30 p.m., complete with drinks and finger food to an elegantly portioned dinner plate to a full family Rotarian entertainment, capping it with breakfast. Wooooow! That's a full induction! We then left Manila Polo Club at 12:30 a.m. for Heritage where I packed up my things to leave for Dagupan for the Opening of the 2nd VM Alvin Fernandez Cup. For the rest of the Rotarians who stayed, I know you had a great time even after I left you. Again, thanks to the Commissioner for ensuring that the breakfast for our Rotarians was taken cared of. For this week's meeting, we have our provincial environment and natural resources officer, Mr. Juan de los Reyes, as guest of honor and speaker. He will be appraising us on laws that we should know for us to be conscious of conserving and protecting our environment.
